7 Amazing Benefits Your Toddler will get from Gymnastics

It’s no secret that gymnastics will build your child’s muscles and improve their flexibility, but that’s not where the story ends. A lot of parents see toddler gymnastics as glorified playtime that’s way more expensive than taking them to the park, but there really is so much more to it. Here is a list of 7 benefits that your toddler will gain from participating in structured gymnastics classes.

  1. Socialization: You had to know this one was coming. Gymnastics is a great place for your child to meet new friends and gain confidence in social settings.
  2. Independence: So often toddlers come into their first day of gymnastics clinging to their parents’ legs; however, after a couple weeks of jumping, and flipping, and swinging, and spinning, these tiny athletes usually come running into class, leaving mom and dad in the dust!
  3. Structure: Because gymnastics is a sport with a lot of risks, it’s important for kids to learn to follow the rules, even at the youngest ages. Your child will learn to listen, to wait in line, and to do what the teacher says.
  4. Focus: Most preschool classes are set up as a circuit. The teacher demonstrates the circuit and then allows the kids to go through the circuit. Your child will learn very quickly, that they must focus on the teacher, or they won’t know what to do.
  5. Confidence: This is my favorite benefit for toddlers, and really all children in gymnastics. This sport builds kids up! When a child conquers their fear of heights and climbs onto the “high” beam, or does a forward roll or a cartwheel by themselves for the first time, they will walk a little taller when they leave class that day.
  6. Perseverance: This one is another valuable life skill! When your little gymnast sets their sights on doing a chin-up and they struggle and struggle and can’t seem to get it, but they don’t give up. They keep trying and keep trying until one day they finally get it and from there, they know with a little perseverance, they can move mountains!
  7. Fun: Even without all the other added benefits - one thing that is guaranteed – your child will have a blast at gymnastics! What kid wouldn’t love brightly colored mats, trampolines, bars to swing on, balance beams to hop across, and so much more!

So, when you’re considering whether or not to sign your toddler up for a gymnastics class, don’t ask yourself why you should …ask yourself why you shouldn’t!
