Clay, Grass, Hard, The Three Types of Tennis Court Surfaces
Clay, Grass, Hard, oh my
Tennis can be played on several different types of courts. With each court type, the ball bounces a little differently. The three major court types are the hard, grass, and clay.
Clay Tennis Court (slow): Clay courts slow down the ball and make the ball bounce high. Clay court eases hard hitters serves and makes it easier to return. If you’re a hard hitter, you’ll have to use a different strategy on this court.
Hard Tennis Court (medium): Hard courts can vary in speed, but they are usually right in the middle when it comes to ball speed. The bounce is more consistent on a hard court than on a clay or grass court.
Grass Tennis Court (fast): Grass courts are the fastest type of commonly used court. This court is best apt for serve and volley tennis. With a good serve, the grass will only fortify your serves intensity.
