Top 5 Men's Soccer Colleges

Soccer: Men’s Soccer Top Five Colleges

Especially if you need a path to a great career, which means that you will need a college degree, you might need a scholarship to get you there. Being a good soccer player can help you make it far collegiately and in your career. Getting a scholarship to one of the top schools in the country can also do wonders for your professional career—getting you at the top of the stacks of resumes.

Based on success on the field and in the classroom, here are the top five school for male soccer players in the U.S.:

  1. SYRACUSE UNIVERSITY: This private research university in New York is populated with over 15,000 undergraduates. Head Coach Ian McIntyre got the team to be titled the most improved team in the nation and was eventually named ACC Coach of the Year.

  1. DUKE UNIVERSITY: A household name, this school fourth in the nation is known for its athletic programs across the board. This team is also known for its rivalry with UNC. Coach and player John Kerr was actually inducted into the Duke Hall of Fame.

  1. WAKE FOREST UNIVERSITY This private university is number two in the state. Coach Bobby Muuss took over as head coach after being assistant for a little while. Upon being labeled as head coach, he was named ACC Coach of the Year and ran through the team’s most successful seasons ever.

  1. SOUTHERN METHODIST UNIVERSITY: In the heart of Texas, this private university has reached the NCAA tournament several times and has a high-quality balance between academic and athletic rankings. The team is run under coach Kevin Hudson.

  1. NORTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY: Under coach Tim Lenahan, the team was turned extremely successful after having no wins on record back in 2000. Since then, they've had 114 wins and have appeared in the NCAA tournament eight out of ten years.

If you are looking to go pro later on or if you need an entry into a prestigious school, these five choices are quality ones to make when choosing which to keep in mind. Although it might be difficult to get a full soccer scholarship to these schools, you can simply add them onto your college wish list and find other means to getting the money to attend there through other (possibly academic) scholarships.

As a young player, being successful early on can impress the collegiate scouts, giving you the opportunity to have the highest-paying scholarships to the highest-quality schools.
